Ralford's Wiki Howto

  [locked]

Anyone is welcome to edit content in the wiki. The features are limited now, and some aspects are annoying (i.e. the "smart" textbox isn't that smart), but I'm still working on it. I will continually be tweaking my weblog and wiki so it's more user friendly.

Text Formatting

For now, five types of text formatting are supported: Nested tags also work: But some things are still buggy:
# Code tags use monospaced fonts; note that multiple spaces are preserved.
echo "Cool huh?";

When reading the weblog or wiki entries, a wiki entry will be designated by a wiki indicator: (w). To edit the designated wiki entry, simply follow the link. If the entry already exists in the wiki, you'll be taken directly to it's page. If the entry doesn't exist, you will be taken to a form that will allow you to create the entry and add content to it.

Locked Wiki Entries

One other thing to mention is that some wiki entries may be locked to the public (this one for example). Locked entries will display "[locked]" following the wiki entry title. You'll also notice that there's no edit button for these entries. I'm locking some entries because I want the content to remain in my own words.
UPDATE
(2006-07-19)
Do to a mysteriously empty main wiki page (The Wiki (w)), I've decided to lock all the wiki pages temporarily. This will remain until I whip up some sort of automated wiki backup script. And by whip up, I mean that a script will probably be ready sometime bewteen now and when a new president is in office.
Wow, I just learned three things when writing this entry: 1. Nested wiki tags are totally possible (and cool) 2. When writing in a CODE block, the wiki isn't smart enough to wrap text. You have to force line breaks with the infamous return key. 3. Some Doobie Brothers songs such as It Keeps You Runnin' and You Belong to Me are a little ridiculous for my liking. Though, the band still rocks. Also - the chorus in Minute by Minute sounds frighteningly like Phish's chilled out Limb by Limb.

Renaming Wiki Entries

Since this wiki is about as smart as a pile of woodchips, a wiki entry (or weblog entry) that refers to another wiki entry by title will not dynamically update if the referred wiki entry's title is changed.

Instead, renaming wiki entries requires a bit of a brute force method. To successfully rename wiki entries, first rename the title of your wiki entry, then edit that title anywhere another wiki entry is referring to it.

This "lack-of-smart" will improve once I get a team of personal interns that do my busy work, filing, laundry, cooking, etc.

Getting Started

To get started, you can try editing content in the sandbox (w). Did I mention that titles of wiki entries are case insensitive?
