Websites for Guitarists

  [locked]

Gootar
(www.gootar.com)

I can surely say this is the most creative use of web programming I've ever ran into. This set of utilities really shows how music theory goes together. My favorite is the chord generator - learn how to build any chord at any fret with any combination of strings.

Boss GT Central
(www.bossgtcentral.com)

The unofficial page for owners of a Boss GT effects board. This is a great place to find out how to configure your board to get the sounds your looking for.

Improvisation
(link)

This is a well-worded page on improvising. They put some concepts into words that we can all understand. My favorite example is their reference to a blind date. Going into a jam with new musicians, you don't know much about them. After the first jam, you have a pretty good sense if you'll be able to make music with the other musician.

Guitar Theory Resources
(link)

A bassist I've been jamming with pointed me to this site. It's pretty loaded with good pointers. The concepts are all geared towards guitarists, but seem to be useful for musicians of any type. The author mentions his thoughts on structuring, improv, sight reading, key changes, etc. The list goes on. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

The Outside Shore
(www.outsideshore.com)

This is a complete guide to jazz and improv. Be sure to check out the jazz improvisation primer.

Fender
(www.fender.com)

Fenders are pretty bad ass guitars, and I think some guitarists underestimate them. I'm into stratocasters, and hope to purchase a showmaster some day. I want to point out some parts of their website:
Emil's Tablature
(www.emilstabs.org)

Emil's Tabs has a great wiki with a list of tabs for just about all songs that Phish has written. Tabs are available for all studio releases and some tunes that weren't put on an album. This is a great place to start if you want to learn how to play one of Trey's wailing guitar parts.
