This was the view on National Trails Day of Saddleback Mountain looking East from my descent of Basin Mountain. On my way towards Saddleback, I was warned by two groups that Saddleback would be a challenge. Thus far it held the most challenging sections of trail of any of my Adirondacks hikes, some of which climbed vertical portions of difficult rock face. Thankfully I was hiking a loop circuit, and did not have to hike down what I hiked up.
Completing Haystack Mountain, Basin Mountain, and Saddleback Mountain in a day wore me out, but was well worth the challenge, and brought my count to 4 of 46. I’m looking forward to my next trip to the Adirondacks.
