I dd my first Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer repair tonight, for a friend. These old ones were designed as if they intentionally considered that flipping the pedal on its back should not damage the control knobs. Great design!
This one had two issues that were preventing it from working reliably:
- When rotating the drive knob, the entire pot was rotating, causing one of the contacts to short to the metal frame. This was repairable by simply tightening the nut that holds the pot in place.
- The output jack had lost it’s “click”. Opening it revealed that the jack has plastic housing which was shattered into three pieces, held together only by a piece of old electrical tape wrapped around the housing (seemingly done by a previous owner). With no replica jack on and, I replaced the electrical tape with a few good wraps.
